Dual-pathway development through school partnerships

Educational Development Wing

The Educational Development Wing partners with leading educational institutions to create a dual-pathway model where student-athletes develop academically and athletically in parallel. The programme recognizes that sustainable football development requires educational foundations that support players beyond their sporting careers.

Current school partnerships include Roots International, Roots IVY, Westminster Academy, Future World School, and ICAS School. Each partnership integrates Smurfs FC training sessions into the school schedule, ensuring students do not have to choose between academic commitments and football development.

The partnership model works on mutual benefit. Schools gain access to professional football coaching for their students, while Smurfs FC gains access to a wider talent pool and ensures its players maintain academic progress. Joint events, inter-school tournaments, and combined awards ceremonies strengthen the relationship between education and sport.

Student-athletes in the programme follow personalized development plans that account for academic schedules, examination periods, and school commitments. Coaches coordinate with school administrators to manage training loads during exam seasons and ensure players maintain academic standards throughout the year.

The Educational Development Wing reflects the Smurfs FC belief that football and education are complementary pursuits. By embedding professional football training within the school system, the programme reaches thousands of students who might otherwise never encounter organized academy football.
